Snow and Winds Disrupt Northern New Mexico Today

Staff Report /

**Snow Showers and High Winds Hit Northern New Mexico**

February 15, 2025 — Snow showers are expected to develop over northern New Mexico today, with the potential for brief, heavy snowfall. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a notice that some snow showers may lead to low visibility and blustery winds, with the possibility of blowing snow across affected areas.

Northern New Mexico could experience occasional heavy snowfall accompanied by strong winds and even isolated lightning strikes. Union County may see additional snow this evening, with potential impacts to major roadways such as U.S. Highway 64/87.

The rest of central and western New Mexico will face brisk winds, with gusts reaching 40 to 50 mph. Colder air is expected to make its way back to eastern New Mexico next week.

For the snow's accumulation, forecasts include a range of possibilities depending on storm conditions. Low-end estimates suggest a 90 percent chance of higher snowfall amounts, while high-end snowfall totals are considered unlikely, with only a 10 percent chance of more snow falling. Variables like storm movement and temperature will affect totals.

Travelers and residents are encouraged to monitor weather updates and prepare for localized impacts. More information can be found at the National Weather Service website: www.weather.gov/abq/winter.

Stay cautious as winds and hazardous driving conditions may impact the region today.
