Boise Bomb Squad Thwarts Homemade Pipe Bomb

Early this morning at 12:45 a.m., Boise Police conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Broadway and Linden. During the stop, an investigation led to the arrest of the vehicle’s driver for driving under the influence and the passenger on an outstanding warrant. The driver’s truck was towed, and officers discovered a suspected homemade pipe bomb during its inventory.

The Boise Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit, also known as the Bomb Squad, was called to the scene. Bomb Squad technicians used a robot to enter the truck and assess the device. They determined that the device was viable, rendered it safe, and collected it as evidence. No additional devices were found in the vehicle.

The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges are pending.
