West Orange Mountaineers Defeat Linden Tigers, 28-21

The Linden High School Tigers faced off against the West Orange Mountaineers on Friday night, November 1, in the quarterfinals of the North Jersey, Section 1, Group 5 playoffs. The game ended with a 28-21 loss for Linden, marking the end of their season.

Linden started strong, taking a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. Their first touchdown came on a running play, followed by a passing touchdown that extended their lead. However, West Orange responded in the second quarter, led by running back Farad Green Jr., who scored two rushing touchdowns to tie the game at halftime, 14-14.

In the third quarter, West Orange took its first lead with a touchdown pass from quarterback Brandon LaBanca to receiver Terrell Wilfong, making the score 21-14. Green continued his outstanding performance in the fourth quarter, scoring another rushing touchdown, increasing the Mountaineers' lead to 28-14. Though Linden added another rushing touchdown late in the game, they were unable to close the gap before time expired.

Green finished the game with a career-high 180 rushing yards and three touchdowns. LaBanca completed six passes for 98 yards, including the key touchdown to Wilfong, who had five receptions for 85 yards. Defensively, West Orange was led by Christopher Barrino with 15 tackles and Micha Howell with nine tackles and a forced fumble.

With the loss, Linden ended their season with a record of 4-6. West Orange advanced to the semifinals with an 8-2 record, where they will face the winner of the Piscataway-Bayonne game on November 8.
