**Linden High School Senior Sheyla Caly Takes on Leadership Role on Board of Education**

Linden, NJ – Sheyla Caly, a 17-year-old senior at Linden High School, is making her mark as the newly appointed student representative on the Linden Board of Education. As she prepares for her second official meeting, Sheyla is focused on advocating for the voices of over 6,600 students in the district.

Standing at five feet tall, Sheyla serves as battalion commander in the school’s ROTC program, a role that has instilled in her a strong sense of discipline and leadership. Her journey began in her freshman year when she noticed a lack of attention to her class. Sheila took the initiative to run for class president during her sophomore year and successfully served three consecutive terms.

In her first address to the board on September 26, Sheyla addressed key student concerns, particularly regarding the enforcement of the school dress code. She highlighted improvements this year, noting increased staff presence in the lobby to ensure compliance.

Additionally, Sheyla focused on cleanliness in shared spaces like the cafeteria, acknowledging the proactive efforts of lunch duty staff in encouraging students to maintain a clean environment.

Looking to the future, Sheyla aspires to become a military nurse and is exploring colleges such as Penn State University that offer NROTC programs. She credits her family, particularly her parents, as her biggest supporters in her academic and leadership pursuits.

As she continues to serve on the board, fellow members have recognized her contributions. Board President Dr. Marlene Berghammer stated Sheyla serves as a vital voice for student matters while Board Member Samuel De La Cruz praised her efforts bridging the gap between the board and the student body.

Superintendent Atiya Perkins also commended Sheyla's leadership and insight into student life, expressing confidence in her ability to make lasting impacts. Sheyla's involvement extends beyond board meetings; she is also engaged in organizing school events, including the upcoming homecoming dance.

With her determination and passion for leadership, Sheyla Caly is positioning herself as an influential advocate for her peers at Linden High School.
